Many U.S. metro markets are seeing a downturn in the sales of homes and residential lots -- but not Charlotte. The local volume of home sales and the number of lots purchased by developers continues to climb, even though several builders say they are cautious about the future. A market with about six months of housing inventory -- that is, completed houses ready to sell -- is considered to be in good shape, says Mark Baldwin, executive vice president of the Home Builders Association of Charlotte. And Charlotte has about two months of housing stock, indicating a far more active market than the nationwide seven-month inventory, he says.
